DELI SERDANG – The district of Percut Sei Tuan officially welcomed a major public infrastructure milestone following the grand inauguration of its brand-new Town Square (Alun-Alun) located in Saentis Village on Tuesday (August 4). Built through a corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnership with palm oil giant PT Musim Mas, the multi-purpose public park is envisioned to serve as a vibrant new community hub and iconic landmark for Deli Serdang Regency.
The inauguration ceremony was led directly by the Regent of Deli Serdang, dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan, accompanied by Vice Regent Lom Lom Suwondo, S.S., and PT Musim Mas President Director Gunawan Siregar. The official handover was marked by the signing of an inscription and a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by the Head of the Deli Serdang Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK), Ny. Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan.
In his keynote address, Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan expressed deep appreciation to PT Musim Mas for delivering an extraordinary gift to the local community. “PT Musim Mas has provided an exceptional gift—a town square that I believe is executed brilliantly. I hope this public space becomes a source of immense pride for the district and stands as a new landmark for Percut Sei Tuan,” the Regent stated.
Regent Asri further reiterated his administration’s commitment to accelerating local public services, announcing plans to construct a new Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in the area next year, alongside advocacy to establish a new public senior high school (SMA Negeri) in coordination with the North Sumatra Provincial Government.
President Director of PT Musim Mas, Gunawan Siregar, explained that the facility was designed as an inclusive green open space catering to sports, recreation, social interaction, and local economic development. During the event, PT Musim Mas also demonstrated its social commitment by handing out financial aid to 25 orphaned and underprivileged children, as well as distributing 170 school equipment packages to coastal students under the PKBM Laskar Pelangi program.
The establishment of the Percut Sei Tuan Town Square underscores the growing role of public-private partnerships (PPP) in enhancing public infrastructure across North Sumatra. As one of the most densely populated sub-districts in Deli Serdang, Percut Sei Tuan has long required accessible green open spaces to accommodate rapid suburban growth, promote healthy lifestyles, and reduce urban heat effects.
Equipped with child-friendly playgrounds, sports facilities, and dedicated spaces for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the town square is strategically positioned to stimulate local commerce. Regional urban planners note that providing structured vendor spaces within public parks prevents illegal street encroachments while creating sustainable income opportunities for local food stalls and artisanal vendors.
Furthermore, the new town square is set to immediately host major cultural events, including the upcoming Deli Serdang Traditional Games Cultural Week (Pekan Budaya Permainan Tradisional). By integrating physical infrastructure with cultural and educational programs, the local administration aims to cultivate stronger social cohesion among youth and families across surrounding villages.
